Hazelnuts

Our hazelnuts come from the US, Chile, and Italy, and our artisans process them following our traditional recipes.
Hazelnuts are a type of nut which is known and consumed all over the world; they have a sweet, slightly buttery flavour, and an intense aroma. They are widely used as an ingredient for desserts, chocolates, pastries, and other baked goods, but they can also be eaten on their own as a crunchy snack that won’t leave a dry feeling in your mouth. In fact, their oil is smooth on the palate and doesn’t leave any bitter aftertaste.
From a nutritional point of view, hazelnuts are poor in water but rich in vitamin E, copper and manganese. They are also a source of sodium, phytic acid, volatiles, and vitamin K.

FUN FACTS ABOUT HAZELNUTS

The hazelnut is one of the first fruit plants to be cultivated by men.
At first, hazelnuts were a cheap alternative to chocolate; during the wars for the unification of Italy (Risorgimento), cocoa was partially replaced by hazelnuts, which Piedmont produced in large quantities. That is how the “gianduiotto” was born.
In Greek mythology, the hazelnut plant was associated with the god Hermes, who was often portrayed holding a staff made of hazelnut wood. That staff is the Staff of Asclepius, the one with a snake twisted around it, which represented medicine in ancient Greece and is now the symbol of the pharmacists’ order.
