Our natural nuts have a hard and wrinkled shell, inside which the seed is found. The seed has a rounded shape and is divided in two halves.
We offer two varieties of walnuts: Howard walnuts come from California, US, and are still shelled, while Chandler walnuts come from Chile and are sold already shelled.
Walnuts can be eaten on their own as a snack or used as an ingredient in various dishes.
From a nutritional point of view, they are an excellent source of polysaturated fatty acids, including omega-3 and omega-6. They are also rich in proteins, fibre, vitamins like vitamin E and B6, minerals such us magnesium, copper and zinc, and antioxidants.
FUN FACTS ABOUT NUTS
In folklore tales, the walnut tree was associated with witches. During the Middle Ages, people believed that nocturnal meetings between witches and the Devil took place under walnut trees.
Walnut trees often appear in fairy tales as well as a plant that contains both treasures and mysteries.
According to folk tradition, in order to make the “nocino”, a liqueur obtained from walnuts, the nuts must be collected from the tree on the night of Saint Giovanni, on June 24th, while they are still soaked in dew.
