We are a company specialized in nuts and dried fruit processing
We are artisans
We are one of the leaders in Europe in pumpkin seeds processing. We are based in Minerbio (Bologna), Italy.
We are experts with more than 50 years of experience in the roasting and processing of nuts.
Our traditional recipe
We roast our nuts following the family’s traditional recipe and our roasters are specialized artisans who focus exclusively on controlling and regulating the degree of roasting according to customer request.
One of our strongpoints is maintaining artisan quality, today supported by modern technologies.
Processing for third parties
Private Label nuts and dried fruit
1960
The beginning
It all started with Fernando Calzoni, who decided to purchase coin-operated distributors similar to gacha machines in order to sell pumpkin seeds in cafés and pubs. His son continued his father’s work, at first as a side job and then as an actual business, which led to the opening of a shop.
1972
First shop opening
Our first shop opened in Cadriano (Bologna), Italy, and it had an oven in which we baked pumpkin seeds, our main product at the time.
The packaging still consisted of small boxes commonly seen in pubs and cafés.
1975-83
A big change
The business prospered until 1970, when coins in Italy were switched out for paper bills only and, as a consequence, the coin-operated pumpkin seeds distributors became unusable. Pumpkin seeds started being sold in bundles of dozens of packets.
1984-97
The new generation
The siblings Patrizia and Claudio, and Claudio’s wife, Rossella, joined the business.
1997
Fruit and vegetables markets
We started supplying our products to stands specialized in nuts and dried fruits at fruit and vegetables markets in Bologna, Florance, Turin, Padua, and Verona, who keep being our clients to this day.
2000
Large-scale distribution
After moving to a small 500 sqm warehouse in Minerbio (Bologna), our business started evolving, the circle of our clients expanded, we increased the number of ovens, and we purchased our first forklift. All of this in conjunction with the evolution of the market which veered towards large-scale distribution.
from 2000 to present
Great expansion
One warehouse soon became three, and then four only one year later. The number kept increasing until reaching the current total of nine. Today our clientele is vast, from markets to large-scale distribution stores. The variety of products we offer grew too: nowadays our products include, other than pumpkin seeds, peanuts, pistachios, macadamia nuts, corn, and many others, sold in packages of different sizes from small 100gr packages to large 4 kg packages. Our evolution has yet to stop, the proof of that is our latest adoption, the optical sorter, which allowed us to enter the so called Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0).
