Our Brazilian nuts, also known as Amazon nuts, come from Bolivia.
They are the seeds obtained from the fruits of the Bertholletia excelsa (Brazil nut), a tree that grows in the Amazon regions of Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, and other South American countries.
The Brazilian nut’s sweet and buttery flavour makes it a popular choice as a snack, but they are also used in a variety of cooking recipes, especially in the preparation of desserts.
From a nutritional point of view, Brazilian nuts are rich in monounsaturated fats, vitamin E and B, and copper. They are also appreciated for their high selenium content and antioxidant properties, which help in keeping the immune system healthy, the thyroid function regular, and in protecting cells from oxidative stress.
FUN FACTS ABOUT BRAZILIAN NUTS
Brazilian nuts are traditionally harvested in an environmentally friendly manner: when the fruits fall from the trees, they are picked up manually by the residents of local communities. This contributes to both the local economy and helps in the preservation of the rainforests.
Brazilian nuts are fruits of considerable size which contain somewhere between 12 to 25 seeds each. The seeds are very similar to almonds in appearance due to their elongated shape and light beige colour.
